Noel actually introduced Berber Carpet to Australia following a visit to London in 1972 where he first saw a natural loop pile carpet made in undyed yarn in Heals in Tottenham Court Road. He was very enthusiastic about this product and visited the manufacturer in northern England. He ordered a 40 foot container of stock. This product was called Rusticana. Back in Australia, he set about contacting the “upper end” carpet retailers at the time and was met with little enthusiasm until he met Merve Ratcliffe in Woolhara who was ready for something new.<br /> The architects, interior designers and specifiers loved it. The rest is history. Berber carpets became huge all over the world in the 70’s and 80’s. The “natural look”. In 1984 Noel established Halcyon Lake Carpets.<br /> Halcyon Lake Carpets is a family run company based in Melbourne Australia that supplies high quality, unique carpets and rugs for clients with the desire for something original and distinctive. With the knowledge acquired in more than 30 years, we are now carrying rugs of natural beauty, carefully handmade by skilled craftsmen, as they were back in our beginning.
