About Halcyon Lake Pty Ltd in Richmond
Halcyon Lake Carpets was established in 1984 evolving from a company Noel Kiely formed in the mid 1970s, Berber Carpets International. Noel actually introduced Berber Carpet to Australia following a visit to London in 1972 where he first saw a natural loop pile carpet made in undyed yarn in Heals in Tottenham Court Road. He was very enthusiastic about this product and visited the manufacturer in northern England. He ordered a 40 foot container of stock. This product was called Rusticana. Back in Australia, he set about contacting the “upper end” carpet retailers at the time and was met with little enthusiasm until he met Merve Ratcliffe in Woolhara who was ready for something new.
The architects, interior designers and specifiers loved it. The rest is history. Berber carpets became huge all over the world in the 70’s and 80’s. The “natural look”. In 1984 Noel established Halcyon Lake Carpets.
